Along with the excitement, summer can also bring distractions at our jobs. At Hagerstown Smiles, we work extra hard to concentrate on our purpose. Our core purpose at Hagerstown Smiles Dental Care is to help our patients achieve the highest level of dental well-being that is appropriate for them and, in so doing, enhance the quality of their lives.
We know that everyone is different and that all of our patients have different histories, upbringings, expectations, and goals when they make their dental appointments. The challenge for us is to meet patients where they are, learn about what they want and expect, and then deliver by providing the best dental care that we can, while also educating our patients along the way in a way that puts them on a path that will enhance their lives. For some, this may mean full-mouth rehabilitation and a smile makeover; for others, this may mean gum disease therapy and maintenance, or it could also mean a routine checkup and exam to confirm that they are healthy.
The cool part about dentistry is that investing in your oral health doesn’t just affect your teeth. Studies are continually coming out that demonstrate links between your oral health and conditions like heart disease, stroke, pregnancy complications, dementia, certain cancers, sleep apnea, headaches, diabetes, osteoporosis, and kidney disease (to name a few). Just recently, they discovered a gum disease bacteria that produces toxic proteins in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients. In 2019, it seems that one common link with these health conditions is inflammation. You should work to decrease the amount of total inflammation in your body. The complicated part is figuring out all the connections between things like genetics, bacteria, cell communication, metabolism, stress, environmental influences, and nutrition.
We believe that investing in your oral health is one of the best investments you can make. Personally, I believe that one of the most important full-body health benefits of dental health is the self-esteem that you feel every day and every time you eat with a confident smile and strong teeth!
I hope that the summer brings fun and excitement for you and your family! Throughout all the fun activities, don’t forget to take care of yourself, your teeth, and your health!
